On the occasion of World Day for Safety and Health at Work and Occupational Health and Safety Day in the Republic of Serbia, an event dedicated to promoting a culture of prevention, improving safe and healthy working conditions, and highlighting the importance of joint action by all stakeholders in this field was held in Belgrade on April 29, 2026.
During the event, national awards in the field of occupational health and safety were presented. It was particularly emphasised that investing in safe and healthy working conditions is one of the most important investments for employees, employers, and society as a whole.
Staff and students from the Department of Environmental Engineering and Occupational Health and Safety at the Faculty of Technical Sciences took part in promoting the Department, its study programs, and the importance of educating professionals in the field of occupational health and safety. Through discussions with visitors, they presented study opportunities, the interdisciplinary nature of the field, and the role of future occupational health and safety engineers in identifying, assessing, and managing risks in modern work and organisational systems.
As part of the event, Prof. Maja Petrović, PhD, participated in a panel discussion dedicated to the role of higher education, professional expertise, and an interdisciplinary approach in developing a culture of prevention and improving occupational health and safety. It was highlighted that studying this field at the Faculty of Technical Sciences and the Department of Environmental Engineering and Occupational Health and Safety provides a unique interdisciplinary foundation, enabling future professionals to consider occupational health and safety issues within the broader context of modern technological, organisational, and sustainable systems.
The participation of the Department’s professors and students in events of this kind confirms the Department’s active role in promoting safe, healthy, and decent work, as well as in raising awareness of the importance of education, prevention, and a professional approach in the field of occupational health and safety.
